February is Heart Health Month
I received an article today and thought it was so hopeful that I would pass it on to you. Here's to keeping your/my new year's resolution!
February is Heart Health Month and with over two-thirds of Americans living with an overweight partner, it’s a perfect time to re-evaluate eating habits and behaviors that may have a detrimental effect on not just weight, but overall health – especially heart health. Weight Watchers would like to share with your viewers how to create a healthy weight home for you and your loved one. Tips and recipes include:
- Stock your house with Power Foods: The common denominator in these foods is they are packed with protein and fiber – and low in fat and carbs to keeping us full and satisfied. They include lean protein, non-fat dairy, whole grains and fruits and veggies. A great dish that’s full of Power Foods is a Creamy Cucumber Dip (RECIPE LINK: http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/prt/RecipePage.aspx?Type=1&RecipeID=115721).
- Renovate Family Favorite Recipes: Simply substituting in lighter, low fat ingredients can make a huge difference without sacrificing flavor. Here's a way to revamp a classic favorite, like Chicken Pot Pie, into a heart-healthy version (RECIPE LINK: http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=50468) .
- Know your medical numbers: Set a date to get you and your partner’s annual blood work done - including diabetes and cholesterol tests. If there is a medical issue, pledge to work on it together. Health challenges can make a great motivator.
